Source: From the El Paso, Illinois Journal, July, 1919 MRS. PERRY DIES. Ages Lady, Long a Resident of El Paso, Passes Away Friday Morning. ---At 4:30 o'clock Fourth of July morning, Mrs. Emily Gibson Perry's long sufferings were ended by death at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John C. Burtis, on south Sycamore street. She had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Burtis for fifteen years during most of which time she was an invalid. Emily Gibson was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1838. She was educated in Walnut seminary and at the age of 18 came to reside in Pontiac where she was married to Dr. James Perry. The couple moved to El Paso where Dr. Perry practiced his profession until his death from paralysis which occurred in Pontiac in 1868 during a business trip to that city. Three children were born to Dr. and Mrs. Perry, Charles who lives in Montana and who visited here last year when he brought the remains of his father-in-law, O. Johns, for internment; another son who died in infancy, and a daughter, Mrs. Clara Burtis of this city. While yet a resident of Pontiac Mrs. Perry united with the Baptist church. After the death of her husband she courageously engaged in the work of supporting herself and children. She was ever a loving mother, kindly woman and respected by all who knew her. Funeral services were held from the Burtis home Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock, Rev. W. J. Leach in charge. Interment was in the city cemetery. Among those present at the service were Miss Lulu Johnston and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Johnston of Oak Park; Mrs. Elizabeth Kay and daughter, Mrs. Joseph Collins, of Chicago. Note: Everything is at appeared in the original newspaper articles. There is one error - Dr. Perry did not die in 1868 as reported; he died in 1874.
